Description

Cefpodoxime is a 3rd generation cephalosporin antibiotic effective against broad spectrum Gram +ve & Gram -ve organisms. It inhibits bacterial cell wall synthesis and is active in infections resistant to penicillins and earlier cephalosporins.

Indications

  • Lower respiratory tract infections
  • Upper respiratory tract infections
  • Urinary tract infections including gonorrhea & cystitis
  • Skin and soft tissue infections
  • Gynecological infections
  • Acute otitis media

Composition

Each dispersible tablet contains:

  • Cefpodoxime Proxetil 100 mg

Dosage

Adults: 200mg twice daily or 400mg once daily for 7–10 days.

Precautions

Pregnancy safety not established; caution in nursing mothers and infants below 2 months.

Adverse Reactions

Diarrhoea, nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, fungal infections & pruritus.

Contraindications

Hypersensitivity to cefpodoxime proxetil.
