R.B.Tone Injection

Description

Oral iron therapy is associated with poor absorption, poor compliance, GI side effects and time consuming. R.B.TONE injection contains iron-sucrose complex providing 20 mg of elemental iron. Administration of Iron sucrose replenishes tissue iron stores, reverses iron depletion and iron-deficient erythropoiesis, and corrects or prevents iron deficiency anemia. Hence it is very valuable in severe anaemic conditions and ensures faster rise in haemoglobin compared to oral iron therapy.

Indications

• Intolerance to oral iron.
• Severe anemia.
• Mild and severe anemia detected near term demanding quicker restoration of hemoglobin and faster replenishment of iron stores.
• Patients with low iron reserve and high risk of peri-partum hemorrhage e.g. multiple pregnancies.
• Refusal of blood transfusion.
• Post partum hemorrhage.

Composition (per 10 ml)

• Each ml contains Ferric Hydroxide in complex with sucrose equivalent to 20 mg elemental Iron. 2.5 ml
• ampoule contains 50 mg elemental iron and 5 ml contains 100 mg elemental iron.

Dosage

Slow intravenous injection
Inject 50 mg (2.5 ml ampoule) over 2 minutes, wait for 2-5 minutes, and then inject another 50 mg IV over 2 minutes.
Infusion
100 mg (5 ml ampoule) to be diluted in a maximum of 100 ml of normal saline immediately prior to infusion and is to be infused over a period of at least 15 min.
Maximum Dose
200 mg per dose infused intravenously over 1 hour, may be administered thrice weekly.

Presentation

R.B.Tone Injection is available as 2.5 ml and 5 ml ampoules.
