Atorvastatin reduces LDL, triglycerides and total cholesterol and increases HDL levels. It inhibits HMG-CoA reductase leading to increased LDL receptor formation and enhanced clearance of LDL & VLDL.
10–80 mg/day can be safely given. Most patients achieve target lipid levels with 10–20 mg once daily.
