The Mauritius Bar Association has amongst its objectives the safeguarding, maintenance and promotion of the interests of the Mauritian Bar, the upholding of the honour, dignity, reputation and independence of its members and the furtherance of their interests in the pursuit of their practice.
In pursuance of its objects, the Association may consider and take measures in relation to a wide range of matters affecting the Mauritian Bar and its members, including the improvement of the administration of justice in Mauritius, the promotion and support of law reform, the maintenance and observance of professional conduct and etiquette, as well as the safeguard of the right of access to the Courts of Mauritius for members of the public and their representation by counsel before such Courts and other tribunals.
The MBA has more than 958 members, including private practitioners, members of the State Law office, the Office of the DPP and barristers in employment. Membership in the Mauritius Bar Association is a mandatory requirement for practicing as a barrister to ensure that every member contributes to and benefits from the maintenance of the association’s objectives.
