The Legal system

In Mauritius, the Supreme Court, the highest court, includes the Court of Civil Appeal and the Court of Criminal Appeal, with a chief justice, a senior judge, and 17 judges. It has unlimited jurisdiction in civil and criminal cases, original jurisdiction in constitutional interpretation, and handles serious criminal cases with a judge and jury. The Intermediate and District Courts handle civil and criminal cases, while the Industrial Court handles employment issues. Appeals go to the Supreme Appeal Court, with the UK Privy Council as the final appeal court.
