Long ago the Indian ocean trade routes were one of the most important maritime routes linking regions and countries such as Africa, Asia, and the  Indian subcontinent. The history of the Indian ocean routes date to thousands of years where many civilizations wanted to conquer this part of the ocean for their trade to be successful.

Goods such as, Diamonds, silk, spices, and cotton were sold. These goods were beneficial to their economy but also served as a way to share and experience other cultures, and religion. Many empires and dynasties had taken advantage of these trade routes but also encouraged and maintained control on these routes.

The development in marine technology at that time increased the efficiency of trade, and made it easier to transport people and products over huge distances.

The arrival of Europeans contributed to the decline in trade of the Indian Ocean, since they found new routes to make trade in Asia.

Trade in the Indian ocean does not have the same influence and importance as long ago, but it still plays a role in connecting different countries together.
