The global Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) market is a growing industry. Main outsourcing destinations include Ireland, Australia, India, and Philippines while China, Russia and Mexico are considered upcoming destinations.
In Mauritius at least 60 companies are providing BPO services to overseas customers. This sector employs over 16,000 people in companies like Accenture, Rogers Call Centre, Ceridian Centrefile and Cendris among others. Approximately 40% of the companies employ between 20 to 50 workers while only 5% employ above 300 workers. It should be noted that 5% of the companies were set up more than 20 years ago. The country of origin for 35% of the companies is France while local investment in BPO services accounts for 25% of total investment in this sector. As expected the market most serviced, in the BPO industry, is France with 42%.
