- To foster the development of post-secondary education and training;
- To ensure compliance with the regulatory framework;
- To promote research;
- To manage the use of government funds for the tertiary education sector and ensure their effectiveness and efficiency
Functions/Services
- Register private universities and institutions offering post-secondary education in Mauritius and accredit their programmes;
- Undertake periodic quality assurance and quality audit exercises of private and public institutions, respectively;
- Determine the recognition and equivalence of academic or professional qualifications in post-secondary education obtained in or outside Mauritius;
- Provide advice on policy matters, including the award of scholarships;
- Allocate and monitor the use of government funds by publicly funded institutions (UoM, UTM, UdM, OU, MGI & RTI).
- Implement research and research-related support schemes, including the award of scholarships for MPhil/PhD studies and postdoctoral fellowships.
