The Human Resource Development Council (HRDC) has been vested with the responsibility to look after and promote the development of the Mauritian workforce in line with the requirements of a fast growing economy. The HRDC operates under the aegis of the Ministry of Education and Human Resources, Tertiary Education and Scientific Research.

National Training Fund
The HRDC provides various financial incentives and grants to employers and training institutions to encourage enterprises to further invest in the training of their employees. The HRDC presently provides the following training incentives:
- In-House Training Scheme
- Institutional Training Scheme
- Overseas Training Scheme
- Training Needs Analysis Scheme
- Multimedia Facilities Scheme
- Foreign Expertise Scheme
- POTI Scheme
National Skills Development Programme (NSDP)
The NSDP is a budgetary measure to train unemployed youth aged from 16 to 35 years in technical skills which are in high demand. Training programmes, which include work placement, are being offered in the following sectors:
- ICT
- Tourism and Hospitality
- Nursing and Paramedics
- Construction
- Manufacturing
- Financial Services
- Logistics
- Other Sectors
Training under the NSDP are financed by the HRDC and are based on skills needs of the industry. In addition, the HRDC will provide the trainees a monthly stipend of Rs 8,000 and an additional Rs 1,000 for travelling expenses, based on satisfactory attendance.
