{"id":2498,"date":"2024-03-22T12:20:00","date_gmt":"2024-03-22T12:20:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/3dprintersinindia.com\/sites\/mauritius_finance\/?p=2498"},"modified":"2024-05-25T08:59:17","modified_gmt":"2024-05-25T08:59:17","slug":"mitd","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/3dprintersinindia.com\/sites\/mauritius_finance\/?p=2498","title":{"rendered":"MITD"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The Mauritius Institute of Training and Development took over the functions of the Industrial and Vocational Training Board (1989) and part of the Technical School Management Trust Fund (1994) in 2009.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The MITD is administered by a board with representatives from both the public and private sectors, as well as TVET specialists.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-medium-font-size\">Vision<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>To be the leader in human capital development in the region and beyond for global employability<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-medium-font-size\">Mission<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>To provide and promote innovative and quality learning and certification services for the development of sustainable human capital<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-medium-font-size\"><strong>Key Features<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The main government provider of technical and vocational education and training in Mauritius.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Operates 25 training centres (15 vocational training centres, and 10 dedicated pre-vocational centres), including one in Rodrigues.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Offers technical and vocational courses at the national certificate and diploma\/higher national diploma levels<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Portfolio of around 61 full-time courses, 115 part-time courses, and 23 apprenticeship courses in various trades<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Provides pre-employment and continuing training to school leavers, in-service workers, the unemployed and vulnerable groups.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Awarding body for National Technical Certificates and Diplomas<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>High graduate employment rate<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-medium-font-size\"><strong>Apprenticeship Scheme<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The Apprenticeship Scheme (AS) started in 1996. It is a mode of pre-employment training based on the German Dual System (1 day in MITD training centres and 4-5 days in industry), which combines on-the-job training with centre-based learning.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Apprentices are paid an allowance during their apprenticeship training. The aim of this mode of training is to produce a skilled workforce, reinforce links with industries and improve the efficiency of training. In 2016, more than 1400 apprentices were enrolled under the AS.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-medium-font-size\"><strong>Recognition of Prior Learning and Trade Test<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>There are many people working in both the public and private sectors as tradespeople but who do not possess any formal qualifications. With a view to recognizing their competences, the MITD conducts trade tests (mainly for ministries, local authorities and parastatal bodies).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The results of the tests enable the employees to be considered for promotion to higher grades. The MITD also conducts assessments in the context of the recognition of prior learning and delivers the necessary certification. These certificates have allowed the global mobility of many Mauritians who are comfortably working in many countries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-medium-font-size\"><strong>International Cooperation<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The MITD has a policy of strengthening collaboration with international partners and training institutions.
